Taught multiple grade levels (6th through 12th grades) at multiple schools in four school districts. Created safe and positive learning environments, managed classroom behaviors, taught according to regular teachers’ lesson plans, taught multiple subject areas with no preparation and/or no lesson plans. Created lesson plans on the fly.

Long Term Substitute — College and Career Readiness Seminar, Marketing (DECA)

Taught 12th grade CCRS and mixed 9th–12th grade Marketing (DECA) at a AAAA suburban public high school with a diverse population from early May until the end of 2018/19 school year. Three-day substitute assignment with no lesson plans, no schedule, no contact with regular classroom teacher, and out-of-control students extended to an emergency long-term contract by request of school principal based on business experience and classroom management skills. Continually adapted lesson plans on-the-fly to accommodate unannounced guest speakers. Worked closely with school administrators, district compliance staff, and students to ensure senior credit completion and graduation. Increased percentage of seniors completing class requirements and passing CCRS from <79% to >98%.

Taught 10th grade AP World History, 9th grade Global Studies, and 9th Grade English Language Arts at a AAAA rural public high school with a large minority population from start of 2nd Semester (beginning of February) until the beginning of May 2019. Out-of-control classroom became a safe learning environment due to application of classroom management skills. AP students demonstrated and self-reported more retention of content and skill in first three weeks of substitute assignment than in entirety of first semester.

Taught multiple acting and movement workshops to fiction and non-fiction writers, helping writers create characters with distinct movements, appearance, speech patterns, and backgrounds.

EpicWrite (TeenWrite’s non-profit successor), Mill Creek WA

EPIC Events are day, overnight, & summer camp Live-Action Role Playing and Writing Events for teens and young Adults. Mentored and counseled youth, created a confidential atmosphere in which youth were able to share either with the group or privately issues they struggle with, including sexuality, self-harm, and suicide ideation. The non-profit’s motto “Creative communities save lives” helped guide it to build on-going safe communities for disadvantaged, special needs, LGBTQ, and other high-risk youth using writing and live-action role-playing games. EpicWrite also runs writing workshops and retreats for teens and adults.
